Obituary for
Joseph Favale
Born in Fardella, Italy, on July 19, 1921 to Antonio and Angela Rose Favale, and
after a long, successful and plentiful life, his heavenly Father called JoJo to his
final reward on February 21,2024.
Along with his father Antonio, JoJo arrived in the United States at Ellis Island in
October, 1935. He is a member of the Greatest Generation and an example of the
American success story. Starting from humble beginnings and with a strong work
ethic, ambition, and perseverance, he struggled through the Great Depression
becoming the owner of one of the best restaurants (Villa Pensa) in Little Italy.
Many loyal customers became friends.
In 1950, he married Gioconda (Jean) Saccone and together they raised five
children: Anthony, Joanne, Joseph, Daniel, and Angela; they were also blessed
with two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He instilled his love of
family in his children and loved spending time with all of them, especially his great
grandchildren. Though the years, he enjoyed cultivating his garden, traveling,
listening to music, and watching boxing and the Yankees. Upon retirement, he
looked forward to spending time in Florida.
He is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A
service to celebrate JoJo’s life will be held on February 26,2024 at 9:45 a.m. at The
Shrine Church of St. Bernadette located at 8201 13 th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Saint Charles / Resurrection
Cemeteries.
In lieu of flowers, the Favale family requests that donations be made to the
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. JoJo will be remembered as a
loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandfather. He was predeceased by
his loving wife Jean of five years. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who
knew and loved him.
