Martin Anthony Sauvalle, December 7, 1946 – May 23, 2023

Martin Sauvalle, a life-long Brooklyn resident passed away as the result of
an accidental head injury. He leaves behind his beloved wife Kathleen, two
sisters: Joan Harrigan and Susan Trainor and their husbands, John Harrigan
and Douglas Trainor. Martin also leaves three nieces: Jennifer Welcome and
her husband Vince, Meredith Trainor, and Stephanie Grusczynski and her
husband Robert; and three nephews: Keith Harrigan and his wife Christine,
Kevin Harrigan, and Gregory Trainor. In addition, Martin leaves two great
nieces: Avery Welcome and Eloise Grusczynski; and two great nephews:
Gavin Welcome and Henry Grusczynski. He also loved and leaves his close
cousins: the entire Cleary & Scanlon families. Martin was preceded in death
by his parents Henry & Kathryn Sauvalle, and his niece Bethany Tomala
Harrigan.
Martin Sauvalle was a Vietnam Veteran who served actively from 1968-
1969 as an U.S. Army Medic. After military service he began his career
working for the Internal Revenue Service - for 30 years until his retirement.
He was a graduate of St. Francis College.
Marty (as we knew & loved him) was a wonderful uncle, surprising each of
his nieces and nephews with an extravagant and delightful Christmas
present each year. He was our honorary baritone who belted out the “…
five golden rings!” portion of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” in his low, but
very loud voice every Christmas Eve.
In retirement Marty enjoyed vacationing in Florida, watching the horse
races at Saratoga Racetrack and other locations, golfing with his family and
many good buddies - and celebrating life & golf with his friends wherever
he went. Marty had many life-long friendships which was a testament to
how funny and wonderful a guy he was. He will be sorely missed by all who
had the good fortune to have known him.
