Obituary for Grazia "Grace" Borsa (Prestia)

Grazia (Grace) Prestia Borsa passed away peacefully, on July 4 th , 2019
after an illness. She was born on July 28 th , 1935 to Calogero and
Giuseppina Prestia in Porto Empedocle, Sicily. She was an example of
love, hard work, and self-sacrifice to her family and will be deeply
missed.
Grace and her parents, and four siblings, immigrated to the United
States in December of 1956. They arrived in New Orleans, and after six
months, Grace (the eldest sibling) assisted the rest of the family to
leave New Orleans and begin their journey to New York City. She
worked as a seamstress, and had a talent for embroidery, and she set
up an apartment with her saved earnings to make this move happen.
They first arrived in what is now called Soho, Little Italy, and ultimately
settled in Brooklyn, New York
She married her one true love, Salvatore “Toto” Borsa (also born in
Porto Empedocle, Sicily) on March 8, 1958. Together for over 50 years,
they celebrated their Golden Anniversary surrounded by loving family.
Alongside her hardworking husband, Salvatore--(employed at the
Ronzoni Macaroni factory) they raised their two children, Jerry and
Lillian.
After the passing of her beloved husband, in 2009, Grace continued to
live in Brooklyn next to her dear siblings and eventually moved to New
Jersey to be closer to her cherished daughter, Lillian. Our family is
especially grateful that she was cared for with devotion and tenderness
by her daughter, Lillian and her family.
Grace Prestia was predeceased, in 1984, by her beloved son Jerry
Borsa. He will live forever in her heart and our whole family.
She is also predeceased by her parents; husband Salvatore, brother-in-
law Alfonso Cumella, and beloved niece Christina Vojvodich.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lillian and her spouse, Stephen
Kovacs. She is survived by two grandchildren: Jerry Bonura and William
Kovacs. Her life was full with her beloved siblings: Salvatore Prestia and
wife Renate, Andrea Prestia and wife Anna, Theresa Carlino and
husband Francesco, and Maria Cumella and late, husband Alfonso.
She was beloved by nieces and nephews- who lived nearby and share
many treasured memories.
