Merita Haxhaj-Kelmendi
Merita Haxhaj-Kelmendi, born March 16, 1970 in Plave, Montenegro, resided in Prishtina, Kosovo, moved to Brooklyn New York in 1993, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, NY from complications of stomach cancer.
She married Sami Kelmendi in 1995 in Brooklyn, NY and they both became US citizens in 2000. She worked as a real estate agent, a marketing manager for Gurri Design + Remodel and a budding professional photographer.
Survived by her are her loving Mother Sadika Cecunjanin-Haxhaj; children: Flaka, Adrian and Festa Kelmendi, husband Sam Kelmendi all of Brooklyn, NY; her sister Kaltrina Haxhaj of Plav, Montenegro; Brothers: Mergim Haxhaj and wife Blerina Tuzi, of Plav Montenegro, Bajram Haxhaj and wife Fahreta, of Queens, NY and Cena Haxhaj and wife Alketa Mecollari of Norfolk, NY.
A Pray Service was held on June 15, 2019 at the Albanian American Islamic Center
at 1325 Albemarle Road, Brooklyn, NY 11226. The burial service immediately proceeded from the mosque to The Kensico Cemetery 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595 (Grave site: K/G-Lot#371-Grave3)
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for Merita Haxhaj-Kelmendi by the Kelmendi & Haxhaj family at Scarpaci Funeral Home. www.scarpaci.biz on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from NOON – 4:00-PM at 1401-86thStreet, Brooklyn, NY 11228 (718-331-8000)
