Obituary for
Vincent Iocolano
Vincent A. Iocolano, 85, passed away at his home in Brooklyn, NY on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. He was born on November 2, 1930 in Bergenfield, NJ to the late Rosaria and Antonino Iocolano, immigrants from Sicily. He grew up in Brooklyn, along with his sister Martha and brother Mario.
Vinny married his childhood sweetheart, Marian, on June 6, 1953. They were happily married for more than 63 years.
He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He continued his service as an usher at St. Frances Cabrini and a volunteer at the Brooklyn VA helping others in need.
His was a life well lived. Vinny was a man of integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, compassion, steadfastness and unwavering love. He was his family’s provider and protector.
He was known to tell the occasional corny joke and mess up the punchline; offer rides to people waiting at the bus stop even though we told him he might get arrested; very rarely wear a shirt, regardless of the season (did we mention he was Sicilian?) and had a penchant for baseball, football and lemon meringue pie, all of which made his family love him even more.
Through his example, he taught his children to love life, live it fully and that family is everything.
He taught his sons to be caring and respectful of others. And to his daughter, he gave the gift of knowing how a real man speaks to, treats and loves a woman through his devotion to her mother.
Vinny’s spirit is carried on by his wife, Marian; his son, Anthony (wife, Gordana); son, Richard (wife, Eileen); daughter Evelyn; grandson, Richard Vincent; and his loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
It will be impossible to fill his shoes. “He is a giant presence in our lives and always will be.”
