Obituary for Rose Scire (LoPresto)

Rose Scire (June 30, 1926 - July 25, 2018): Rose Scire, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and "Queen of the Five Boroughs Recycling Brigade," died July 25 at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. She was 29 until the end. Born to a Sicilian family and raised in Brooklyn, she could nag you in two languages - while wearing a housecoat with curlers in her snow-white hair - but never hear your answer. She has been reunited with her cherished husband and devout Yankees fan, Sebastian Thomas Scire, after 13 years apart. They married in 1946 - after she'd threatened to run away and elope - and held hands until his death in 2004. She wore a pink bedazzled tiara for her 90th (or third 29th) birthday, got a perm and set every Friday, and memorized New York City's long-lost compendium of arcane garbage and recycling rules. She showered her family with love, affection and an ever-present cloud of Calvin Klein Obsession perfume.

Her survivors include her children, Salvatore, Margaret and Paula; grandchildren, Thomas, Anthony, Christine, Vincent, Stefanie and Brianna; and great-grandchildren, Gianna, Salvatore, Ethan and Evan. They have inherited her love of icebox cakes, jelly rings and chocolate-covered cashews.
